TTU AND GOSHEN GLOBAL PLANTS OVER 1,070 TREES PLANTED AT TTU NEW SETLITE CAMPUS ( AKATAKYI CAMPUS)

Takoradi Technical University, in collaboration with Goshen Global Vision, an environmental NGO, planted 1,070 trees today near the University’s Akatakyi satellite campus. Dr. Bruce Amartey, TTU’s Dean of Students, who supervised the tree planting activity to honor the national Green Ghana Day, stated that the planted trees will provide the vital environmental cover and protection for the new campus’s wide plot of land.

“In the name of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, we plant this.” Amen. We shall return to nature in order for it to develop and become not just a source of making our lives better, but also a monument to commemorate this day. We have a lot of fallow land here at Akatakyi, and as an institution, we need to be strategic. There are a lot of storms in this location, so having trees that may function as shades to protect the facility here is much better. In contrast to the main campus, where practically every portion of the place is almost completely occupied, here we have a lot of fallow fields, and the storm will have a full day ripping down our constructions,” he remarked.

The Dean of Students also emphasized the need of tree planting due to the pressing worries about global warming.

“It is something that is really beneficial because, once again, global warming is gradually depleting the planet of its natural character, so we as an institution or as a country need to plant a lot of trees.” To do this, I mean that we will not lose our natural species, both on land and in the waters. We would be able to minimize drought once more… This project will be managed by myself. So, as Dean of Students, the Pro Vice Chancellor invited me to be here, which demonstrates the management’s involvement in this particular endeavor. Looking at the crucial University staff who are here because of this project tells me that management will go to great lengths to guarantee that these plants are preserved and nurtured so that they can see the light of day,” he added.

The engagement with TTU on the tree planting activity, according to Mary Perpetual Kwakuyi of Goshen Global Vision, aims to help further its environmental preservation mission.

“Last year, we planted with Takoradi Technical University in front of the university’s road medians.” We decided to come here this year, Akatakyi. If you look to the left side, you will notice that the trees have been cut down. So we agreed to come here today to work with you to plant these trees.
One reason is to offer a windbreak for your lovely structure here. If we don’t plant the trees, you’ll understand in about two to three years that when it rains, the storm will pull this structure down, as you see it now.
Second, we are going to restore biodiversity habitat. As a result, you’ll notice that we don’t see any birds, butterflies, or animals crawling around here. Because the trees have been taken down. So, as we repair the trees over the next two to three years, you will notice that biodiversity is returning since they exist to help us people survive.
Third, when these trees sprout, students will flock to them for shade while reading and learning. It will also improve teaching and learning at Takoreadi Technical University. So that is why we are collaborating with you to create Takoradi Technical University an environmentally friendly university that everyone will want to visit,” she stated.

Goshen Global Vision’s Mary Perpetual Kwakuyi provided a summary and benefits of the tree species planted.

“Today, we are planting 1,070 trees of twenty various varieties, as well as fruit trees.” We are also looking into food security so that when students are hungry, they may plug in some for lunch or a snack. Mangoes, oranges, guava, coconuts, and other fruit trees are among them,” she noted.
